…. It’s been a long time since I bought Spanish Mackerel from a market. When my daughter LACEY was a baby, she used to eat grilled Spanish Mackerel with butter instead of a full meal until 5 years old. She is still crazy about fish dish. I am cooking braised Spanish Mackerel with spicy sauce and radish today. It needs to be served steamed rice. I love not only the Spanish Mackerel but also the cooked radish. The texture of the cooked radish is soft, juicy, and a little sweet and salty. But so many other types of fish can be good for it too.

Servings: 3–4

Time: 50 minutes

Ingredients:

  1. 1 lb spanish mackerel
  2. 2 cup water
  3. 1.5 lb radish, cut into small
  4. 1 cup onion, sliced
  5. 1 jalapeño, sliced
  6. 1 red jalapeño, sliced
  7. 3 stems green onions, cut into 1 inch
  8. 4 cup steamed rice

For sauce:

  1. 2 Ts gochujang
  2. 2 Ts korean bean paste
  3. 2 Ts soy sauce
  4. 2 Ts garlic, minced
  5. 2 ts fresh ginger, minced
  6. 2 Ts chili powder
  7. 1 Ts toasted sesame seeds
  8. 2 Ts sesame oil
  9. 2 Ts Mirin
  10. 2 ts sugar

….all mixed

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Mix the gochujang, bean paste, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, chili powder, toasted sesame seeds, sesame oil, Mirin, and sugar into a bowl well and set aside.

2. Heat up with medium heat with a pot and add the radish into bottom of the pot. Add half of the sauce and fish pieces into the pot.

3. Add the sauce, onion, jalapeño, green onion and red jalapeño into the top of the fish pieces.

4. Pour the water into the pot and boil them with a lid about 25–30 minutes.

5. Serve it with steamed rice.
