Korean Steamed Pear(Baesuk)
….This dish is a bowl of love. You serve baesuk for a loved one who has a severe cold. Baesuk is great for colds, especially sore throats and coughs. It’s also a delicious sweet snack or dessert. I love the texture of cooked pear. It is a food brought to Korea as a home remedy. I caught a cold when I was a child, and my mother made this juice. My cough got better! I also used to make it when my daughters had a cough or cold. If you’re trying to cure a cold, serve it hot with a small spoon. Otherwise, you can serve it chill in the fridge before serving as a dessert. Today, I made it with sincerity for my grandson SIWOO. I added very simple ingredients without ginger and cinnamon powder for him, and also squeezed it as juice for easy drinking. I hope he will be better as soon as possible……
Servings: 1–2
Time: 15 minutes plus 1 hour steaming pear
Ingredients:
- 1 Korean pear, cleaned and pat dry
- 2 jujubes, removed pits and sliced
- 1 Ts(or 2 Ts) honey
- 1 ts ginger(this is optional)
- 1/2 ts cinnamon powder(this is optional)
- 1 Ts pine nut(this is optional)
Cooking Instructions:
- Make a lid by slicing 1 inch off the top.
2. Scoop out the core and the seed with a small spoon.
3. Fill it up with the jujubes, pieces of pear, and honey.
4. Put the sliced lid back on the pear and put it in a heat-resistant bowl. Heat a steam pot with medium high heat and add 2 cup water into the steamer to steam the pear about 1 hour over with a lid.
5. After 1 hour, turn off the heat. Serve it hot or cold with a small spoon.
6. After cooling down, I squeezed the steamed pear with a cheese cloth for my grandson.
