….It has already been 6 years, since the first time my eldest daughter invited us to dinner after getting married. At that time, my son-in-law DJ made this dish from scratch as an appetizer. WOW!! I was amazed, thankful and touched. I love to cook for others, but I was also happy to have someone cook delicious food for me. I thought my daughters must have a great time cooking with their husbands….. Anyway, tuna tataki is a simple Japanese dish that combines delicate, gently-seared tuna with a citrus-soy sauce giving it a gentle ginger kick. It’s easy to make and makes a great appetizer. The tuna is seared ever so quickly, to retain that gorgeous buttery texture and beautiful color. Don’t sear more than a minute each side. Let the tuna rest a couple minutes before slicing and make sure you use a really sharp knife to slice. A drizzle of soy- lime dressing adds a nice punch.

Servings: 4

Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  1. 200 g tuna, pat dry
  2. 1 lime, sliced
  3. radish to taste, sliced
  4. 2 avocado oil
  5. 3 tbsp black sesame seeds
  6. sea salt to taste
  7. sesame oil to taste
  8. some greens for garnish

For soy-lime dressing:

  1. 1 tbsp Mat-Gan-Jang
  2. 2 tbsp olive oil
  3. 1 tbsp apple, minced
  4. 1 tbsp white wine vinegar
  5. 1/2 sea salt
  6. white pepper to taste
  7. 1 tbsp lime juice
  8. 1 tbsp triple crunchy mustard

….all mixed

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Put the olive oil, apple, triple crunchy mustard, white wine vinegar, sea salt, white pepper, lime juice, and Mat-Gan-Jang into a bowl to mix well. Keep it in a refrigerator.

2. Put some sea salt and sesame oil into a tray. Mix them lightly.

3. Coat the tuna with the salt oil lightly.

4. Put the black sesame seeds into a tray and coat the tuna with the black sesame seeds well evenly.

5. Heat a pan with medium high heat and add the avocado oil into the pan.

6. When the pan gets hot, sear the tuna on all 6 sides for 30 seconds each. Set aside to cool it down(can use in a refrigerator for 10 minutes).

7. After 10 minutes, slice the seared tuna and place them onto a serving plate.

8. Serve it with sliced limes, sliced radishes, and some pea shoots(or baby greens). Add the soy-lime dressing on the side.

I started organizing recipes that my family likes. I learned these recipes from some chefs and popular blogs. May my daughters remember mama's food.
